Using Prerequisites

Managing a program is a lot of work. You’ve got enough on your plate without having to manually check every volunteer’s paperwork. Prerequisites act as your digital assistant, checking those requirements automatically so you can focus on your volunteers, not the spreadsheets.

Step 1: Attaching a Rule to Your Opportunity

While your Admin often sets these up in bulk, you can always add a specific requirement to a role manually.

  1. Open your Opportunity: Go to the specific role or event you are managing.

  2. Find the Prerequisites Tab: This is your control center for this tool.

  3. Add the Rule: Click Select from Predefined Prerequisites and select the appropriate requirement from the list. Your Admin has already handled the complex logic, you just have to pick the right name.2021-03-08_12-34-46

Step 2: Understanding the Outcome

The "strictness" of a rule is set globally to ensure every program meets the same safety standards. This means you don't have to worry about configuring settings, the system knows exactly how to handle it.

What happens when a volunteer hasn't met a requirement is determined by your organization's global settings:

  • The Hard Stop: The system will automatically block a volunteer from signing up if they haven't met the rule.

  • The Soft Warning: The system will allow them to sign up but will refer instead of place.

Explain the "Why": Volunteers are much more likely to complete a prerequisite if they understand its importance. In your opportunity description, briefly mention why a certain requirement exists.

We're Here to Help: If you can't find a prerequisite you need, or if the "Hard Stop" is causing a bottleneck for your team, reach out to your Admin or our support team. We're in this with you!
