In Samaritan the term "Opportunity" describes an assignment, activity, or event that engages volunteers. This is one of the three core profiles in eCoordinator.
How to create a new Opportunity (Opp)

Quick Steps
- From the Opportunities tab, click New
- Walk through each tab filling out the appropriate information.
Note: Opportunity profiles are custom and look different for each client. This article describes how to create a new opportunity in general terms on. Please schedule a training with Samaritan to learn more about your custom process.

- Main Info: give the Opportunity a Title, Short Description, Long Description, the Opportunity Type, and Volunteer Type
- The Recruiter URL is the link to your Opportunity and lets you see a preview of your work. As with most other fields, you can grid the Opp URLs.
- Select Feature Opportunity if you want this to appear on the Recruiter homepage
- Organization: choose the correct Organization the Opportunity applies to.
- Contact Info: the contact information of the person hosting the Opportunity
- Location Info: where the Opportunity will be held
- Logistics: this controls the behavior of the Opportunity. Choose the Start and end dates (see Definition of Opportunity Dates below). You can choose to have separate display start and end dates. Choose the min. # of vols needed, and the min. age allowable for the Opportunity. Also decide if you want the Opportunity to be a referral Opportunity only or if you wish the Opportunity to be a placed Opportunity
- Placed: officially signed up and can have log book entries (hours) entered
- Referred: vols can sign up but not be placed until they capture certain items; a waitlist indicating interest in the Opportunity. Note: there can be no log book entries from a volunteer who is not placed.
- Hide from search results: if building a private Opportunity, you may choose to the remainder of the fields are intuitive
- Surveys: attach an Opportunity survey
- Sign-In: attach a Sign-In Station to the Opportunity
- Prerequisites: assign prerequisites or requirements to prevent placement
- Attachments: add an image or attachments
- Main Info: give the Opportunity a Title, Short Description, Long Description, the Opportunity Type, and Volunteer Type
Now that you have created your opportunity, make it visible to volunteers by placing it in the Publish Folder (look for this icon ).
